Licensing FAQ

DO I NEED A LICENSE if I'm not profiting from it?

Yes. You need a license to use my music as part of your project.

There are two license types: STUDENT and STANDARD.

The STUDENT license is for individuals attending any college/university. The STANDARD license is for individuals not enrolled as students. Most dancers, choreographers, filmmakers, and directors need a STANDARD license.

HOW DO I REQUEST A LICENSE?

Contact me to request a license. Be sure to include the following:

  1. Your name
  2. Type of license needed (STUDENT or STANDARD)
  3. The college/university you attend (if applicable)
  4. The song(s) you would like to license
  5. The number of performance runs (see details below)

HOW MUCH DOES A LICENCE COST?

STUDENT licenses are free (with exceptions). If the work is presented outside of the institution, including film festivals, a STANDARD license must be purchased.

STANDARD licenses are $100.00 per track per performance run.

WHAT IS A PERFORMANCE RUN?

A performance run includes all performances at a single venue.

For example, if you have ten shows at one venue, you only need one license per track. Conversely, if you have ten shows at five different venues, you need five licenses per track. These conditions also apply for film festivals.

“We request the grand rights for three (3) songs for a choreographic work that
will be presented at three (3) venues.” = $900.00

DOES the music track come with the purchase of the music license?

Currently, this website platform does not offer the technology to provide the music track along with the license. I am actively looking into other options where this and other "shopping" features exist.

CAN I EDIT YOUR MUSIC FOR MY PROJECT?

Contact me for details. Additionally, a license only covers the music on my website. I cannot license other artists' music. If I permit you to combine my music with other songs, you also need permission from those artists/copyright holders.

DO I NEED A LICENSE TO POST A VIDEO ON SOCIAL MEDIA?

No. You do not need a license to post a video containing my music on social media. However, videos containing my music may receive a copyright notice; the content will likely be demonetized.

I PURCHASED A LICENSE FOR A SCREENDANCE SHOWING. DO I  NEED TO PURCHASE A SEPARATE LICENSE TO POST THE FILM ON MY WEBSITE?

No. The original license for the film permits it to be housed on your website. However, a separate license will be required for each subsequent screening (festivals, presentations, etc.)

WHAT CAN LICENSED MUSIC BE USED FOR?

Licensed music can only be used in dance performances or screendances. For all other inquiries, contact me here.
